Indications |
Oral Treatment and prophylaxis of nicotinic acid deficiency Adult: Up to 500 mg daily in divided doses. May also be given via IM or by slow IV inj. Topical/Cutaneous Mild to moderate inflammatory acne Adult: As a 4% gel: Apply bid, reduce to once daily or on alternate days if irritation occurs. |
Warnings / Precautions |
Peptic ulcer; liver disease; gall bladder disease, DM; gout; bleeding problems. Pregnancy, lactation. |
Adverse Reactions |
Elevated LFT values, liver damage e.g. jaundice, parenchymal liver cell injury; orthostatic hypotension; tachycardia, irregular heartbeat; nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain; headache, dizziness, fever. Inj: skin rash, itching, wheezing. Topical: Dry skin, pruritus, erythema; burning sensation, irritation. |
Drug Interactions |

Mechanism of Actions |
Nicotinamide is a vitamin B3 derivative. It is incorporated into coenzymes nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADP), which are involved in multiple cellular metabolic pathways. Absorption: Readily absorbed from the GI tract. Distribution: Widely distributed in the body tissues. Metabolism: Hepatically metabolised. Excretion: Small amounts excreted unchanged in the urine. |
