Indications |
Ophthalmic Ocular infections Adult: Instill 1-2 drops or apply ointment 2-4 times daily, usually in combination with other antibacterials (eg, neomycin and polymyxin B) and frequently with a corticosteroid. Topical/Cutaneous Superficial infections Adult: Apply thinly bid-tid. |
Contraindications |
Porphyria. |
Adverse Reactions |
Local sensitivity reactions, Stevens-Johnson syndrome. Potentially Fatal: Liver and kidney damage. |
Mechanism of Actions |
Gramicidin is an antibacterial which is too toxic to be used systemically, so it is rather used as a topical and ophth agent and in combination with other antibacterials (neomycin and polymixin B) and also with corticosteroids. |
