Oral Bacterial diarrhoea Adult: 400 mg of berberine sulfate as a single dose |

Pregnancy, lactation. Infants & young children. |
Adverse Reactions |
High doses of berberine >500mg (corresponding to 8-100 g of dried goldenseal root) can cause stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, nervousness, depression, dyspnoea, bradycardia, cardiac damage, hypotension, seizures, paralysis, spasms & death. |
Mechanism of Actions |
Decreases anticoagulant effect of heparin in laboratory tests of heparinated animal & human blood. Act as cardiac stimulant in low doses, increases coronary perfusion & inhibits cardiac activity at high doses in animals. Antipyretic activity, anthelmintic, antihistaminic, antimicrobial, antimuscarinic, antitumorigenic & hypotensive effects have been documented in animals & laboratory models. Duration: 8 hr. Absorption: Absorbs slowly orally. Peak plasma conc is achieved in 4 hr. Excretion: Excretes in the urine. |
